Drill 6 — The Transfer Test
Take your rhythm to a map you have never played. If your success rate collapses, you memorised geometry rather than learning the technique.
Pass criteria
Six-catch climbs at a comparable success rate in a map you had never played before the session.
Before you start
- Drill 5 passed — six-catch climbs are reliable in your home map
Setup
- Pick a practice map you have never opened. Wall Hop Practice Game and Wall Hop Frenzy are both good unfamiliar targets.
- Do not scout it first. The unfamiliarity is the test.
The drill

Attempt a climb cold
Find a shaft at roughly your reliable width and attempt a six-catch climb with no warm-up on the new geometry.

Record the honest success rate
Ten attempts, written down. Expect it to be worse than at home. How much worse is the information you came for.

Diagnose the difference
If it is much worse, work out what changed — gap width, surface type, lighting, camera angles, or the game's movement values. Naming the variable is most of the fix.

Adapt within the session
Re-measure your reliable width in the new map. It may genuinely differ, because jump power and gravity are per-game settings.

Add a second technique
Find a truss section and practise transitioning from a wallhop into a ladder flick. Real towers interleave them, and Wall Hop and Ladder Flick Practice exists precisely because the transition is its own skill.

Rotate maps regularly from now on
Make unfamiliar geometry a routine part of practice rather than a test you pass once. Skill that only works in one place is not finished.
Troubleshooting
Success rate collapses completely on new geometry.
Cause: You learned a specific set of gaps rather than the underlying technique.
Fix: Go back to Drill 2 and Drill 3 in the new map. Rebuilding the base on varied geometry is faster than grinding climbs.
A gap that looks identical to one at home is much harder.
Cause: The game may have different jump power, walk speed, or gravity.
Fix: Re-measure your reliable width per game rather than assuming it transfers.
Wallhops transfer fine but truss sections stop you.
Cause: You have not practised ladder flicks.
Fix: Drill flicks separately in Wall Hop and Ladder Flick Practice before attempting sections that interleave them.
Techniques this drill trains
The Wallhop
InsaneClimb a vertical shaft by alternating strafe inputs between two facing walls while holding jump. The technique the whole obby exists to teach.
Corner Hop
HardClimb the corner where two walls meet at right angles by alternating between faces. Easier than a pure wallhop because corners give clearer contact.
Zigzag Wallhop
ExtremeA wallhop where the two walls are offset rather than directly facing, so each hop has to travel forward as well as sideways.
Ladder Flick
InsaneAttach to a truss and immediately redirect off it with a fast camera turn, launching in a direction the ladder does not face. Pairs with wallhopping constantly.
Drill 6 — The Transfer Test FAQ
Why does my wallhop work in one game but not another?
Two reasons. Either you learned the geometry rather than the technique, or the second game has different movement values — jump power, walk speed, and gravity are all per-game settings.
How often should I rotate practice maps?
Often enough that no single map's geometry becomes your definition of the technique. Once a week is a reasonable rhythm.
