Building a wallhop practice routine
Most people practise wallhopping by repeatedly failing the thing they cannot do. Here is a structure that produces measurable improvement instead.

The default approach and why it fails
The natural way to practise a hard obby section is to attempt it repeatedly until it works. For wallhopping this is close to the worst available strategy, and it is what almost everyone does.
The problem is diagnostic. A ten-hop climb that fails somewhere in the middle gives you almost no information — you cannot identify which hop failed, whether the cause was positioning or timing, or whether your inputs were even the issue. You get a binary outcome and no signal. Fifty attempts later you have fifty binary outcomes and still no signal, and the natural conclusion is that you are just not good at it.

Isolate before you integrate
Break the technique into its smallest testable unit and drill that unit to boredom before combining anything. For wallhopping the smallest unit is a single catch: one wall, one extra jump, no attempt to climb.
Twenty consecutive single catches on the left wall, then twenty on the right. Separately, because most people are noticeably worse on one side and you want to find out which. Then two chained catches — one on each wall — ten times in a row, and stop at two every time even when it feels easy.
Two chained catches is a real wallhop. Everything above it is the same thing repeated. Over-drilling the two-hop is the highest-leverage thing you can do, and it is the step people skip because it feels like it is beneath them.
Measure something
'My wallhop is inconsistent' cannot be trained. 'I clear 12-stud gaps nine times out of ten and 16-stud gaps one time in five' can be, and it also tells you whether last week's practice did anything.
The measurement to take is your reliable width: the widest gap you clear nine or ten times out of ten across a ten-attempt sample. Wall Hop 1 - 100 Studs exists for exactly this, laying gaps out by width from 1 to 100, and it is the only map that gives you a proper axis to measure along.
Record your ceiling separately — the widest gap you managed even once. The distance between reliable and ceiling tells you whether your limitation is reach or consistency, and those need different training. A large gap between them means you have the reach and need volume at lower widths.
Re-measure weekly with the same protocol. Daily measurement is noise.

Practise below your limit
This is the piece that feels wrong and matters most. Spend the bulk of your practice one or two studs below your reliable width, not at your ceiling.
Training at your ceiling produces mostly failures, and failure reps do not build motor patterns — they build frustration and, worse, they let sloppy variations creep in because nothing is being reinforced. Training just below your reliable width produces mostly clean successes, which is what actually consolidates.
The ceiling is for measuring, roughly once a week. It is not where you live.
Short sessions, spread out
Wallhopping is a motor skill, and motor skills consolidate between sessions rather than during them. Four twenty-minute sessions across four days beats one eighty-minute grind, and the difference is not marginal.
There is also a specific failure mode in long sessions: as fatigue sets in, your success rate drops, and the natural response is to try harder and change something. What you usually change is a part of the technique that was working. People routinely leave a long session worse than they entered it.
Stop while you are still succeeding. If your success rate drops noticeably from where it started, that session is finished regardless of how long it has been.
Test whether it generalised
A rhythm drilled on one set of gaps can end up tuned to those gaps specifically. The way to find out is to open a practice map you have never played and attempt a climb cold, without scouting.
Expect the success rate to drop. How much it drops is the information. A small dip means the skill generalised; a collapse means you memorised geometry. If it collapses, go back to single catches and two-hops in the new map rather than grinding climbs — rebuilding the base on varied geometry is faster.
Also re-measure your reliable width per game rather than assuming it transfers, because jump power, walk speed, and gravity are all per-game settings. A visually identical gap can genuinely be harder somewhere else.
Once this is routine, add the second technique: find a truss section and practise moving from a wallhop into a ladder flick. Real towers interleave them constantly, and the transition is its own skill.

How long should a wallhop practice session be?
Twenty to thirty minutes of focused work, and stop when your success rate drops noticeably from where it started. Motor skills consolidate between sessions, so frequency beats duration.
Should I practise the section that is blocking me?
Only after you have drilled the component it requires in isolation. Attempting the blocking section repeatedly is what produced the plateau in the first place.
How do I know if I am actually improving?
By re-measuring your reliable width weekly using the same protocol in the same map. Without a number, improvement is a feeling and feelings on this are unreliable.
Is it normal to get worse during a long session?
Yes, and it is one of the strongest arguments for short sessions. As fatigue accumulates people start changing parts of the technique that were working, and can finish worse than they started.

Find the widest gap you clear nine times out of ten. That number is your benchmark, and turns 'I'm inconsistent' into something measurable.
Drill 5 — The Sustained Climb
Extend from two catches to six or more without the rhythm degrading. The drill where stamina and attention become the limiting factor rather than technique.
Drill 6 — The Transfer Test
Take your rhythm to a map you have never played. If your success rate collapses, you memorised geometry rather than learning the technique.
