Drill 1 — Client Setup Check
Before any technique work: cap your framerate, enable shift lock, and confirm jump chaining works. Ten minutes here saves hours of misdiagnosed failure.
Pass criteria
FPS capped at 60, shift lock engaging, continuous bounce from held jump, and all three-key combinations registering.
Before you start
- A Roblox account and any wallhop practice place open
Setup
- Join a practice field with flat ground available — Anti-Troll Wall Hop Practice Field or Wall Hop Practice both work.
- Open the Roblox settings menu (Esc) before you attempt anything.
The drill
- 1
Cap the framerate at 60
In Roblox's settings menu, set the FPS cap to 60. Higher framerates make wallhopping measurably harder — this is the explicit advice of the developer of Wall Hop Practice, the most-played wallhop trainer on the platform.
- 2
Enable shift lock switch
Still in settings, turn shift lock on. It is a platform setting, so the in-game Shift toggle does nothing until this is enabled.
- 3
Verify the lock engages
Close settings and press Shift. A lock icon should appear near the crosshair. If it does not, the game has shift lock disabled — note that and plan to control the camera manually.
- 4
Test jump chaining on flat ground
Hold Space on a flat surface. You should bounce continuously without re-pressing. If you stop after one jump, the game has overridden default humanoid behaviour, and wall techniques will not work as documented.
- 5
Test simultaneous inputs
Hold A and Space together, then D and Space, then A, W and Space. All should register. Some keyboards silently drop the third simultaneous key, which makes diagonal wall techniques feel broken through no fault of your timing.
- 6
Locate the alignment keys
Press comma and period. The camera should rotate in fixed increments. These are an alternative to strafing that many players find more repeatable — you will use them in later drills.
Troubleshooting
Held jump does not chain on flat ground.
Cause: The game runs a custom character script that overrides the default humanoid.
Fix: Move to a different practice place. Nothing in this curriculum works without jump chaining.
Shift does nothing in game.
Cause: Either shift lock switch is off in Roblox settings, or the game has disabled it.
Fix: Check the platform setting first. If it is on and the icon still does not appear, the game has disabled it.
A+W+Space does not register all three.
Cause: Keyboard ghosting — common on membrane keyboards.
Fix: Try a different keyboard for diagonal drills, or use the alignment keys instead of strafe inputs.
Techniques this drill trains
Shift Lock and Camera Control
EasyLock your character's facing to the camera so strafe inputs stay predictable. Almost every failed wallhop starts as a camera problem.
Jump Chaining (Holding Space)
EasyHolding the jump key makes the character jump again the instant it registers a landing. This is the engine behaviour that every wall technique is built on top of.
Drill 1 — Client Setup Check FAQ
Why does capping FPS help?
The advice comes directly from the developer of Wall Hop Practice, who states plainly that higher FPS makes wallhopping much harder. If your wallhops got worse after unlocking your framerate, this is why.
Can I skip this drill?
You can, and a large share of people who conclude they cannot wallhop have skipped it. Ten minutes of setup removes three separate causes of failure that look identical to bad timing.
